Thought everyone would like to know that Susi is part of a really wonderful juried exhibition, the Studio Art Quilt Associates' 12 Voices. Here's a link to the opening reception, where you can see some of Susi's pieces! There's also a wonderful catalog (I've seen it; another friend, Ginny Smith is one of the 12 Voices!) Go Susi and Ginny!

I hope Diane got the three books I sent her last week. I can't wait to hear about her class.
I did not get the chance to take a picture of two of the pages I did. In Jean's book, the theme was humorous words of wisdom from women. Since I am not wise, I chose to use a humorous quote from Roseanne. Something about not vacuuming until Sears makes one you can ride on. I did an interior of a room with many, many dust bunnies. I found a button of a baseball, dirtied it up and glued in on with all of the room clutter.
The other book page was Betsy's. The theme was show who you are. This was difficult for me. I play it close to the vest. I thought about my affection, respect and reverence for trees. We have had many trees fall in our neighborhood and yard this summer. I decided I was a willow tree. We had one in my parents yard for many years. I am deeply rooted with family, friends and faith. I am strong, but flexible enough to withstand sorrow and return upright. I try to turn my face to the sun and protect with shade. I am mortal.
OK, way too serious. How is the summer going?

I am excited to announce I have a quilt in a juried art show! My first attempt since I have been doing quilting art. Delaplaine Visual Arts Center in Frederick, MD. The piece is called Spring Forward. I will try to figure out how to send a picture.
Hope all is well.

I'll try to add the inside of the books next: Ooops! They are now first and i don't know how to change that. The last three photos are the covers. The first three are the inside of the front cover.

After putting the glue on to hold everything together, I weight it with "The Handbook of Attachment"!!!! I thought that was appropriate!!! LOL

My page had two openings, so I made similar openings in the piece; when there's not white paper behind the page, you can see through to Diane's page! (Her first one!)
This is a variation on another mushroom quilt I did, and is much darker in real life than it appears here, though I did darken the photo some. I wish it was this bright in real life! There are beads & buttons, scrapbooking words and some trims and yarns I've accumulated, as well as some stitched sheer fabric in the background. I attached it to the background page using some industrial glue my husband bought for attaching insulating foam under the hood of his car. I decided if it was good enough for the Ferrari, it was good enough for my quilt. That baby is on there! Hope the rest of the book still opens, Jean!
I find it very peaceful and spiritual! In the upper right hand corner is a tile! Very cool!
I've done my page in Lynda's book, too, and am sending it on its way!

My darling husband showed me how to add the photo of Pat's completed page!
The background is handmade paper decorated, painted and embellished with seed beads (like bubbles). A mini quilt has machine embroidered birds and the organza has "Ebb and Flow" printed. String and fishing line have a tiny brass fish and shiny disks on one as well as a cork and wooden beads on the other.
Water images are very powerful to me. It can take on any form. Liquid, solid or vapor. In the Spring, water rushes, spills, swirls then pools. Constantly moving. I was thinking about Pat and her life one year later.

I finished Pat's page and mailed it off to Ellen. I have a pic of it, but do not know how to transfer it from an email to this blog. I am so techno dumb. I received Jean's book. I will tackle it in a few days.
This is fun.

Since I am a newbie to altered books, please share with me wether you are making a mini-quilt, just layering fabric or using paper. I could use some input.

I am sorry but I am really not going to have time to be part of this. I thought I had the time but I haven't even been able to get a book to mail out to Cheryl. And now I am coming down with a cold on top of all the busyness. I apologize again for ducking out.

To help, as posts start accumulating, if you remember (I don't always), put "altered book" in the label for posts that pertain to the current challenge. (The label box is below the main text box when posting.) That way, we can search and see all the altered book posts at one time if we want.
Also, there's a way to subscribe so that you are notified when there's a new post to the blog. I'll figure that out and let you know how to do that. That way, you don't have to keep checking....
I know if you are already using an RSS or news reader, you can add the blog to that. If that means nothing to you, never mind.

2d, Jan, Rayna's class was fantastic, you'll have a great time at QSDS! I LOVED the batiking. It's easy and fun and the screen printing is a blast too. I will post pictures later today to my blog and one pic here with a link to the others.
3d, congrats to Cheryl, woo-hoo for the ribbon. Is there a website you can send us to, Jan?
Last, yay for almost everyone getting on the blog. I feel like this is going to really help make us a little online fiber group. Thanks to Diane for kickstarting us!

There are three words written on it; I'm not sure you can see what they say. You'll just have to wait until you see it in person. I'm not telling.
People drop out of classes towards the end of May so get on the waiting list and hope you get in. That's what I plan to do. What classes are other people taking?

Thank you Jean for summarizing what we know to date.
I know Jean brought up the insurance thing. As far as I understand, at this point in time, we would only be reimbursed for our materials if a book was lost. I don't think it's worth spending the extra money each time we ship for that, but I will go along with the majority.

OK, here's the book Diane sent me for my blank slate. It's an exciting story of love and adventure. I'm disappointed, though, because the monkey mask was missing! May have to make my own. After I read it for an hour or two, I decided to scan it so people can see what the book looks like in its unaltered state (except I removed Diane's contact details to protect the, er, innocent?). It's about 6" square, with 6 hard pages including the covers, or 12 front and backs.... Can I pick any page or do we have to do them in order? Ooh, decisions, decisions!
